Team Jacob

I found some fiber in the unlikely town of Forks, WA - yup, Twilight Forks - a few years back. This is 6.5 oz of Jacob roving from Fuhrman Road Farm.
It's lovely and crimpy and a breeze to spin on a hand spindle.

In other travel souvenir news, my friend Nancy brought back some caramels from Belgium.

Caterpillar

The caterpillar roving is off the wheel.

Rare Bloom

The orchid roving is spun.
I decided to do this on the wheel since there's 8 oz, instead of the usual 4 oz handpainted braid.

Next up, to go with that flower is this worm:
This is 5.5 oz of punta wool in the colorway "caterpillar" from Little Monkey's Stitch & Spin.

Days of Yore

I went digging through the fiber stash for my next spinning project and was drawn to this:
It's 8oz of Serendipitous Ewe Corriedale roving in the colorway "orchid." I got it at Stitches East 2008. back in the day, when Stitches East was a quick train ride away in Baltimore, instead of a really long train ride away in Hartford, CT. Best of all, in those days, you could get 4oz of handpainted roving for $12. Yup, good times.

While I was rummaging through Flickr, I noticed that I bought this roving at the same time as the yarn for the macaw socks:
Together again.

Howdy Sailor

The Mariner's Revenge roving is all spun up:
I think I was a little better at getting a consistent thickness, rather than thick-and-thin on this one.

So Many Singles

This batch of merino silk took forever to spin!
It's interesting how that thick and fluffy spinning can really spoil you for finer spinning. I couldn't wait to get this off the wheel!
I'm letting it sit for a bit until I get up the energy to tackle plying.

While that's resting, I'm working on this:
It's 4.2oz of corriedale from KnittyAndColor Handpainted Fiber in the colorway "Mariner's Revenge."

Return of Sock Knitting

I made good progress on the toes of the Miss Babs socks during Stitch 'n Pitch, and now both socks are done at last!
I started a new pair with Village Yarn Kangaroo Dyer handdyed in the color "macaw."

Fast and Loose

I finished with the Frabjous Fibers roving on Thursday.

I also spun up a 4 oz braid of Red Thread merino over the weekend. This is the colorway "Jasper."

Beltway Battle Stitch 'n Pitch

Went stitching at the Nats-O's Stitch 'n Pitch on Friday. I worked on the long-neglected Miss Babs Windsor socks.
Abe led the President's Race for a while:
but George won in the end. The game itself was knotted up at 1 forever, but the Orioles finally broke the tie in the 11th and the Nats couldn't catch up.

Rorschach Cheesecake

I tried a new recipe over the weekend, creme brulee cheesecake bars. I didn't have toffee bits, so I thought I'd actually try to broil some sugar on top.
I see a flower. Or maybe a butterfly. It's pretty yummy stuff, unpromising inkblot appearance to the contrary. I used some of the industrial size Krusteaz sugar cookie mix, of apple cheddar spice tart fame, and bruleed instead of toffee chipping. Apart from that, I followed the recipe as written. Next time, I might make the side crusts a bit thinner.

Callooh Callay

I've been working on the green merino silk roving but it's taking forever. I'd forgotten how slow spinning thin can be. While that's occupying the Louet, I've started this on the spindle
It's Frabjous Fibers in the colorway "Cottage Garden." Here's half of it predrafted:
And on the spindle:
